Audible is now letting readers of erotic fiction get right to the action with a "Take Me To The Good Part" feature. It's part of a new Audible Romance package, which is designed to let connoisseurs dig deep into the massively popular genre.
They're using machine learning to scan keywords and groups of words for certain types of scenes -- but that doesn't necessarily mean they're running you right to the ripped bodices and slow caresses. It's more complex than that.
SEE ALSO: 'Mean Girls' reimagined as a forbidden lesbian romance feels too rightRomance novels aren't the same as porn -- where it's common practice to just skip around to find the hottest action. Here it's not just about the money shot. The enjoyment that avid readers of the genre draw is often much more from the build up or the fantasy as a whole than it is from a single moment of ecstasy.
They're smartly taking that into account. Cynthia Chu, Audible's Chief Financial Officer, told The Vergethat the scenes are divided into 10 different categories: "First Meeting, Flirty Banter, Sexual Tension, First Kiss, I Want You, Trouble in Paradise, It Might Be Love, Declaration of Love, and Proposal, as well as the sex scene category, Hot Hot Hot."
In short, she says they're, “moments in a typical women’s title where we know fans go back to relive them time and time again.” To that end, you'll be able to select the type of scene you're into and it'll let you hop into books that feature them.
SEE ALSO: Read an excerpt from 'Jane the Virgin' companion novel 'Snow Falling' — but be prepared to cryThe feature is part of the larger Audible Romance package that will also let you read unlimited books as well as sort titles by their steaminess score. It's available as an add-on to your existing subscription or on its own for $15 a month.
And now there truly is no reason to ever leave your house again.
