An advertising campaign in Australia is Obscene Wifetrying to break down prejudices and challenge people's inherent biases by showing that everyone is born equal.
Relationships Australia NSW (RANSW) launched the moving campaign to make people notice the snap judgements they make on a daily basis regarding race, gender, age, religion, sexuality and disability.
SEE ALSO: Australian television puts diversity on top of the agenda for one night onlyThe ads shows four people from minority groups in society that are often targeted or marginalised: a Muslim woman, a man with paraplegia, a gay woman and an Aboriginal man. The images list their year of birth and weight at birth along with the powerful words: "Born just like you." It is a stark reminder that despite everyone's perceived differences, we are all human.
RANSW, which provides relationship services and support to anyone, is hoping to make people re-evaluate their views of others and to create a conversation around diversity.
"Our vision at RANSW is for an inclusive society which promotes and supports respectful and resilient relationships, and welcoming diversity is an essential part of this," Frank Francis, CEO of Relationships Australia NSW said in a statement. "Good relationships with others can and do change communities."
Josh Hunt, the creative director of Drifter, the agency behind the campaign, said in a statement diversity in Australia is what makes the country so unique and Australians should embrace it and challenge out-dated views.
"It’s troubling that we still don't have marriage equality in Australia, and still see racism, xenophobia and prejudice from all parts of society, from the sporting grandstands to key media mouthpieces," Hunt said.
"If we all took a moment to consider our diversity, we would see that it is what makes this country so amazing. Hopefully this campaign can go a small way to challenge the current status quo and at the same time draw attention to the wonderfully diverse support services Relationship Australia NSW offers each and every day".
