In the VR experience, users can duplicate Damon's adventure as Mark Watney as he does everything from travel through space, explore the Mars terrain and operate the various equipment needed to survive on the red planet.
"I’ve always tried to approach filmmaking from the standpoint of creating an immersive experience. Now with the tools that are available to us in virtual reality, we can raise the bar even higher. The audience can experience storytelling in ways we previously could only imagine," said Ridley Scott, the director of the film version of the property and executive producer of the VR experience in a statement released by the studio.
"Mars has never been closer to being within our grasp and I’m so thrilled that we can invite people into The Martian VR Experience."
Scott offers a taste of what the full experience holds in a new YouTube VR video (above), narrated by the director himself.
We got our first peek at the The Martian VR Experienceback in January at CES, where the producers offered samples of the experience using the Oculus Rift.
But that was just a sample. The full experience will be available for $19.99 on both the PS VR and HTC Vive on Nov. 15.
