Many of the singer's opening remarks fell flat with fans watching at home, and they took to Twitter to blast the singer for her lack of comedic chops.

Because there's an incredible amount of depressing news out in the world right now, it would be awkward for her not to address it—but instead of tackling it head-on, Perry joked about how much she loved the pilgrim chic outfits from TheHandmaid's Tale and a fake headline of the world burning.
Oh, and she looped in a fidget spinner, because is it even 2017 if someone doesn't play with a fidget spinner on live television?
