It's a first-time Emmy win for Australian actor and ass fucking moviesundeniable bloody legend Ben Mendelsohn, who took home Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his role as Danny Rayburn on the Netflix series Bloodline.
Mendelsohn beat a number of high profile contenders, including Game of Thrones actors Kit Harrington and Peter Dinklage, Michael Kelly from House of Cards, Jon Voight from Ray Donovan, and Jonathan Banks of Better Caul Saul.
He spared the ceremony an acceptance speech, however, as he wasn't in attendance.
Like many Australian character actors now making it big in Hollywood, Mendelsohn paid his dues in the local screen industry, appearing dramas like Neighboursand the Secret Life of Us. He's definitely one of those faces you keep seeing again and again if you watch Australian television.
A Hollywood breakthrough of sorts came in the form of critically acclaimed Australian film Animal Kingdomin 2010, which won Mendelsohn several film awards locally for his role as a criminal on the run from the law.
Since then he's appeared inThe Dark Knight Rises, Girls (as Jessa's dad) and is slated to play Director Orson Krennic in the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Post-picking up his role in Bloodline, he explainedon Jimmy Kimmel Liveon how difficult it is to pick up an American accent.
"If you're coming over here as an actor and hope to play an American ... if you don't come up with something that's going to work, they'll send you home," he explained.
Mendelsohn's win might be bittersweet as Netflix recently announced that Bloodlinewould be cancelled, with the series set to end after its third season. Season three will debut in 2017.
