During previous hearings involving Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election, Zuckerberg sent Facebook's general counsel instead of showing up himself.
"This hearing will be an important opportunity to shed light on critical consumer data privacy issues and help all Americans better understand what happens to their personal information online. We appreciate Mr. Zuckerberg's willingness to testify before the committee, and we look forward to him answering our questions on April 11," Committee Chairman Greg Walden and Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. wrote in a joint statement.
But that's far from the only committee that wants to hear from Facebook's top executive. For example, two U.S. Democratic Senators called for Zuckerberg' personal testimony in front of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation. While Zuckerberg has not confirmed he will testify in front of other committees, a Facebook spokesperson told Mashable that those conversations will continue.
UPDATE: April 4, 2018, 6:13 p.m. PDT April 11th won't be Zuckerberg's only Congressional appearance. On Wednesday, the Senate Judiciary and Commerce Committees announced a joint hearing where the Facebook CEO is also expected to testify about data privacy issues. That hearing is scheduled for April 10 at 2:15 p.m. ET.
