Let's dive into a Google's Pixel 8 vs. Pixel 7 match. In this face-off between the base models of the Pixel 8 and Privacy policythe Pixel 7 lines, we'll help you figure out if it's worth upgrading or not.
The Pixel 7 will likely see a $100 discount, but even still, Google's new flagship phone is a sight to behold with a new advanced chipset, brighter display, higher refresh rate, and some fresh new colors if that strikes your fancy. If you're still undecided, we've squared the two phones head to head to help you make a decision.
SEE ALSO: Google Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro officially announced. And there's a new built-in thermometer, too.The Pixel 7 launched this time last year with a relatively cheap $599 price tag. However, if you wanted a Pixel 7 model with a little more storage (128GB vs. 256GB) that would run you an extra $100. The Pixel 8 base model will be $100 more than its predecessor with the 128GB phone starting at $699. Thankfully though, the 256GB version will only see a modest $60 increase at $759.

The price for the new flagship may or may not be justified, but the following rounds will help see if the price hike is justified.
In terms of storage options, the new base model of the Pixel 8 is the same as last year. The RAM configuration is also the same as last year's as well.
Pixel 7: 128GB of storage + 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage + 8GB of RAM
Pixel 8: 128GB of storage + 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage + 8GB of RAM
Google is keeping a similar design to the Pixel 7 for the Pixel 8 albeit with a smaller display size. Despite the small loss in size, the Pixel 8 will still have the camera bar and the glossy design with a back glass made of Gorilla Glass Victus. Additionally, the Pixel 8 is only a tenth smaller than its predecessor with a brighter screen and a higher refresh rate.
Pixel 7:6.3 inches, 1400 nits, 90Hz refresh rate
Pixel 8:6.2 inches, 2000 nits, 120Hz refresh rate
Although the design is similar, Google is offering new colors for the Pixel 8 that are sure to stand out from the crowd. Alongside the obligatory black (Obsidian) and white (Snow) options, Pixel 7 had a Lemongrass color that was a vibrant-eye-catching green-ish, gold color. Google is mixing things up for the Pixel 8, removing the snow color and replacing it with Obsidian, Hazel (gray), and Rose (pink).

Not to sound like a broken record, but the camera upgrades between the Pixel 8 and Pixel 7 are insignificant at best. The Pixel 7 camera is already pretty good, but not the best compared to other phones. It looks like Google is keeping the same specs in mind for their new flagship's base model with a new 50MP camera and a lower aperture (which is better for light gathering). The FOV of the 12MP ultrawide camera also sees an increase from 114 degrees to 125.8 degrees.
Here are the main camera specs
Pixel 7: 50MP, 1.2 μm, ƒ/1.9, 82-degree FOV
Pixel 8: 50MP, 1.2 μm, ƒ/1.68, 82-degree FOV
Rear camera specs:
Pixel 7: 12MP, 1.25 μm, ƒ/2.2, 114-degree FOV
Pixel 8: 12MP, 1.25 μm, ƒ/2.2, 125.8-degree FOV
And front-camera specs:
Pixel 7: 10.8MP, 1.22 μm,ƒ/2.2
Pixel 8: 10.5MP, 1.22 μm, ƒ/2.2
Shooting video doesn't seem to have changed much either, but the Pixel 8 has added a 24FPS mode. There are also some new photo editing features with the Pixel 8 like UltraHDR and the Audio Magic Eraser.
Google is boasting that its new Tensor G3 chip will "push the boundaries of on-device machine learning" and is adding it to the Pixel 8. The Tensor chips are not the most powerful compared to its opposition like the Qualcomm Snapdragon and Apple's A-series chipsets. But we're not comparing the G3 to those; we're comparing it to the Tensor G2, and it represents a major performance upgrade for the Pixel 8 compared to the Pixel 7.

The Tensor G3 is enables all the new camera editing features mentioned above, along with enhanced AI capabilities throughout the device.
Google is boosting the battery capacity of the Pixel 8 to 4,600 mAh, up from 4,355 mAh in the Pixel 7. The Pixel 8 will also charge faster with speeds increased from 23W to 27W.
