Kathy Griffin has been under fire (and fired) for posting a bloody,erotice photos on instagrm severed Donald Trump-like head as part of a photoshoot earlier this week. But amid all the backlash from conservatives and liberals alike, she just got her first public backing from a fellow comedian.
SEE ALSO: Donald Trump finally responded to Kathy Griffin's bloody Trump photoJim Carrey defended the outspoken comedian Thursday -- and he's pretty much the only celebrity standing up for Griffin's gruesome photo of the president. Griffin had originally defended the work calling it art, but then apologized and said she was wrong. She hasn't posted anything since that Twitter apology.
At the Los Angeles premiere of Carrey's new Showtime TV series I'm Dying Up Here, Carrey told ET Wednesday that "I think it is the job of a comedian to cross the line at all times -- because that line is not real."
He went on to explain his thinking, which is basically that Trump is doing "crazy things" so comedians are "the last line of defense. And really, the comedians are the last voice of truth in this whole thing."
Carrey then told ET about a weird dream he had about playing golf with Trump and indicated he too has violent thoughts directed at the president. "I was standing beside him with a club in my hand, and I was considering my options when I suddenly woke up," he said, in what seemed like a non-sequitur way of defending Griffin.
Carrey is on his own on this one -- CNN, Squatty Potty, a Northern California event center, and even a New Mexico casino have canceled events and partnerships with Griffin.
