The SororityMarvel Cinematic Universe has skyrocketed many white guys named Christalented actors to international fame, but where were they before acquiring super powers and joining this superior squad?
Most of the cast of Avengers: Infinity Warwere plenty visible before their intergalactic heroism, but we couldn't resist diving into their old filmographies for our favorite deep cuts from the past. Below, find our favorite offbeat pre-Marvel roles from the cast of Infinity War.
SEE ALSO: Who's who in 'Avengers: Infinity War'Downey has been in the public eye since the '70s, whether for his screen work or his personal life. Somewhere in all that, we always manage to forget that he was a cast member on Saturday Night Livefor one season – that too at only 20 years old. It's strange now to think of him as a comedy actor, but his knack for humor is what made Tony Stark so charming in Iron Manand set the whole MCU in motion.
Evans has been a known commodity since early in his career, which makes this video even more of a damn gem. It's the logical predecessor to Captain America's Spider-Man: HomecomingPSAs! They talk about bald eagles and America! There is literally a black panther in the video. Listen to his voice! Look at his hair! Call someone for emotional support!!
Johansson's career spans action, drama, romance, you name it, but she deserves more credit for playing the mean sister in Home Alone 3 (the one with the microchip in the remote-controlled car). There are more Home Alonemovies after this one, but Johansson must have known this wasn't the franchise for her. Smart move, sis.
Boseman was mainly a TV actor before playing Jackie Robinson in 42, so he's been on everything from Justified to Law & Order. Nestled in there is one episode of E.R.called "Oh, Brother" in which he was so inconsequential that he isn't even listed on the episode wiki. Boseman plays a patient suffering from a boxing injury, andCarl Weathersplays his dad. Also in the episode? Then-series regular and future Queen Mother of Wakanda, Angela Bassett.
Before he became Bucky (his last film credit before that is as "Suitor" in Black Swan), Stan could be seen having the most fun as villain Blaine in Hot Tub Time Machine. We know from Winter Soldier (and USA's tragically short-lived Political Animals) that he can be a brooding antihero, but Blaine has more dimension than most Marvel villains. Can we keep Stan around even if Bucky dies in Infinity War?
This one was tricky, but no role screams "RANDO" like "Boyfriend" in 2009's Where the Wild Things Are. Ruffalo plays the ostensible enemy of childhood and stability in Max's life, and then Mike goes into the fictional woods to start a rumpus. Can't blame him!
Pratt is one of those actors with multiple breakthroughs, whether in Jurassic Worldor Guardians of the Galaxy, Parks and Recreationor The O.C. and Everwood (some of those might be news to you right now!).
But for the purposes of this slightly deranged list, we're going to go with the 2011 romantic comedy What's Your Number, starring Pratt's then-wife Ana Faris (😭) and – get this – Chris Evans. Pratt cameos as Disgusting Donald, a man that Ally (Faris) once slept with. Even Anthony Mackie makes an appearance in this unofficial Captain America/Guardianscrossover.
Young Tom has been a star since his leading days in Billy Elliot, but we have to talk about this short film he directed with his brothers and appears in briefly. It's about a little boy who wants to make a birdhouse! He bonds with his grandfather! Tom carries a bench and then sleeps unknowingly while – well, we won't spoil the twist.
Lil' ol' C-Hemmy was a familiar face in his home of Australia before migrating to the U.S. via Asgard, but nothing can compare to the time he played the father of yet another Chris, Chris Pine, in J.J. Abram's 2009 reboot of Star Trek. Romulans didn't cause that singularity, the Chrises did!
Before living the dream in sci-fi and action – including Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Trek, and Avataroutside the MCU – Saldana starred in cult favorites among artsy nerds, like Center Stage, Drumline, and Shonda Rhimes' Crossroads, starring Britney Spears and Orange is the New Black's Taryn Manning.
Mackie is a busy man who's been working since the early 2000s, and in 2012 he played Will Johnson in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Yes, Will is saved by a white man in the pre-Civil War era, but Lincoln is a pretty decent option for a savior (and he hunts vampiresin this movie). He ends up working for Lincoln while he's in the White House and also kicking vampire butt.
Cheadle played Will's old buddy Ice Tray in one shining episode of Fresh Prince of Bel-Airtitled "Homeboy, Sweet Homeboy." Tray and Hillary hit it off immediately, much to the chagrin of Uncle Phil and Aunt Viv, and young Cheadle is awfully charismatic even in the few clips online.
Benny C has been all over since Sherlockpremiered on the BBC in 2010, so we've gotta go with 2008's The Other Boleyn Girlstarring none other than Black Widow (Johansson), Thor's old flame Jane (Natalie Portman), and a former Hulk (Eric Bana). Cumberbatch plays William Carey, and he totally bones Mary Boleyn.
While he lurked in the MCU as the voice of Jarvis since day one, Bettany was out there being seen on screen in many a where-do-I-know-that-guy-from role (a personal favorite is as the masochistic monk Silas in The Da Vinci Code). In 2001, he shared screen time with the late Heath Ledger in A Knight's Tale as Geoffrey Chaucer (and was also in the widely-acclaimed A Beautiful Mind).
Thanos has been kicking around Hollywood for decades (remember him as Brand Goonies?), which means he experienced ye olde '80s rite of passage known as guesting on 21 Jump Street. Look at that non-purple babyface! What a gift.
