Undoubtedly, Activision is hoping that players will watch other players earn cool items and want to invest in securing loot boxes of their own.
There is a more wholesome side to this, though. Some people just really like watching other people open loot boxes. Every time Overwatchor Hearthstonehas a big new update, Twitch and YouTube creators can see hundreds of thousands of views just from opening up a bunch of loot boxes or card packs.
